Yulia Efimova: from a training pool to Olympic medals

Our new brand ambassador carved out her sports career in two countries – Russia and the United States. The first time she tried her swimming skills in a pool was in the small town of Volgodonsk under the care of her father and a trainer at the same time. After that, she went to Taganrog and worked with Irina Vyatchanina who is thought to have helped Yulia reach her first ringing success. When Efimova became the European and world champion in swimming, she moved to California to polish her skills under the guidance of star coach David Salo.

Yulia scored her first glorious victories in 2007 when she became a three-time European champion. At that time she was only 15 years old! Her career developed from good to even better. The swimmer displayed a marked tendency of winning gold medals. Since then, she has repeatedly stood on the podiums of the European and World Championships. Efimova won her first Olympic medal in 2012. Back then, in London, she took third place. At the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, Yulia won two silver medals at once.

In 2009, Yulia left a distinguishing mark in the history of women swimming in Russia. She became the first Russian swimmer to win a gold medal in a 50m breaststroke competition of the World Championship. It was a roaring success! It was both an individual triumph of hardworking and talented Yulia Efimova and a nationwide triumph. “We can be the best”, Yulia hinted. And she was quite persuasive! Seemingly, her beauty and energy helped her to spark the interest of Russians in the swimming discipline again. A whole generation of swimming fans admired her achievements.

The number of Yulia’s fans is really impressive. She has over 230,000 followers on Instagram. And many more people worldwide follow her brilliant results in competitions.

However, Olympic medals are not the reason for Yulia to rest on our laurels. In 2019 she collected a complete set of gold, silver and bronze medals at the World Championships in Korea. Moreover, she performed brilliantly at the Tokyo Olympics 2021, having made the top five in a 100m breaststroke competition. No doubt, Yulia has more glorious victories ahead!
